Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Based on the results of this study it is concluded that WAL 801 CHLORACETAMID is not mutagenic in the bacterial reverse mutation assay for Salmonella typhimurium TA 100 and TA 98 with and without S9 metabolic activation.
Executive summary:

WAL 801 CHLORACETAMID was tested in the Salmonella typhimurium reverse mutation assay with two histidine-requiring strains of Salmonella typhimurium (TA 100 and T A98).

WAL 801 CHLORACET AMI D was tested up to concentrations of 5000 ~g/plate in the absence and the presence of S9-mix. WAL 801 CHLORACETAMID precipitated on the plates at dose level of 1 000 ~g/plate and upwards.

The bacterial background lawn was not reduced at all concentrations tested in both tester strains. In tester strain T A98, an extreme reduction in the number of revertants was observed at the test substance concentration of 5000 ~g/plate both in the absence and presence of S9-mix. In tester strain TA 100, an extreme reduction in the number of revertants was observed at test substance concentrations of 3330 and 5000 ~g/plate both in the absence and presence of S9-mix.

WAL 801 CHLORACETAMID did not induce a dose-related increase in the number of revertant colonies both in the absence and the presence of S9-mix.

Based on the results of this study it is concluded that WAL 801 CHLORACETAMID is not mutagenic in the Salmonella typhimurium reverse mutation assay.
