Description of key information
Potential effects of the test item on seedling emergence and growth were assessed with OECD 208 and all EC 50 values for all three species tested (LOLIUM PERENNE, BRASSICA RAPA, VICIA SATIVA) exceeded 100 mg/kg.
No visible phytotoxic effects were observed on all three species.
Additional information
The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates NO need to investigate further the effects on terrestric organism. This is concluded based on the following key aspects as result of the chemical safety assessment:
- the substance is regarded as biodegradable based on screening test result.
- the substance is not classified as hazardous to aquatic organisms (the lowest EC10 = 145 mg/L (Algae))
- no Risk Characterisation is to be performed because the substance is not classified according to any of the Criteria of the CLP-regulation (EC) 1272/2008.
Further, direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment to the substance is unlikely. Indirect exposure to soil via sewage sludge transfer can be regarded as not relevant because of its biodegradibility and the low potential to adsorb to particulate matter. Because the substance is considered biodegradable, it can be assumed that it will be biodegraded within the STP process and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected. Furthermore, the physicochemical data indicate that the substance is not adsorptive or bioaccumulative (low logKow and due to ionisation in water at environmentally relevant pH values), a significant distribution into the soil compartment and a significant exposure of terrestrial organisms is not expected. Therefore, no tests/test proposals on terrestrial organisms are provided. Direct exposure to the substance is not known based on the identified uses. This is in accordance with the specific rules for adaptation from testing in 9.4 of column 2 in annex IX and annex X of the regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH).
