Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The results of the chemical safety assessment do not indicate the need to investigate further the toxicity to sediment organisms

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental data concerning the toxicity of methyl hexanoate (CAS No. 106-70-7) to sediment organisms are available. According to the standard requirements set in Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annexes VII, VIII and IX information regarding the effects of the substance on sediment organisms does not need to be presented at this tonnage band (100-1000 t/y). Furthermore, the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, R.7b (ECHA, 2008) states that in general, substances with log Kow or Koc ≤ 3 are not likely to be adsorbed to sediment. Therefore, the assessment of their toxicity profile in the aquatic environment is covered adequately with pelagic tests. According to the Integrated Testing Strategy (ITS) for toxicity to sediment organisms (present in the above mentioned Guidance) no testing on sediment organisms is necessary if the substance is not highly adsorptive or binding behavior to sediment particles is not expected. Methyl hexanoate has a log Kow value of 2.34 and log Koc values ranging from 1.5-2.1 and therefore, testing and further assessment of the sediment compartment is not required.
