First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures
General information: Be sure to show this safety data sheet, the packaging or the instructions for use to the physician.
After inhalation: Remove victim from contaminated area. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, provide artificial respiration. Call a doctor.
After severe exposure: Administer a sodium sulfate solution (10g/100ml water) in intervals of 30 minutes. In case of unconsciousness, place patients on their side in a stable position for transportation.
After skin contact: Wash with water and soap and rinse with plenty of water. If skin irritation continues, consult a doctor.
After eye contact: Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. Seek medical treatment
After swallowing: Immediately call an emergency physician to the place of accident. Immediately administer sodium sulfate. For adults approx.. 30g/200ml water; for children approx 0,25g/kg bodyweight. Induce vomiting. Again administer sodium sulfate.
Information for doctor: Soluble in gastric juices. LD barium carbonate (also soluble in gastric acid): 0,5-4g
Most important symptoms and effects both acute and delayed: Irritation of mucuous membranes. After Swallowing: Nausea; Salivation; Vomiting; Dizziness Gastric or intestinal disorders; Diarrhoea; Acidosis; Raise of blood pressure; Bradycardia (slow rate of heart contraction); Tachycardia
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed: Symptomatic treatment (decontamination, vital functions)

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing agents: Foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Water haze and Fire extinguishing powder.
For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents: Direct jet water
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Dangerous decomposition products see chapter 10: stability an reactivity
Advice for firefighters
Protective equipment: wear self-contained respiratory protective device
Additional information: Dispose of fire debris and contaminated firefighting water in accordance with official regulations. Collect contaminated firefighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Wear protective equipment. Keep unprotected persons away. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid formation of dust. Use respiratory protective device against the effects of fumes/dust/aerosol.
Environmental precautions: Do not allow product to reach sewage system or any water course. Do not allow to penetrate the ground/soil.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Pick up mechanically. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid any dust formation. Pick up with testes and approved industrial vacuum cleaner if necessary. Make sure to recycle or dispose of in suitable receptacles. Dispose contaminated material according to instructions of local authorities.

Handling and storage

Handling:
Precautions for safe handling: Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace. Carry out filling operations only at sites with extractors available. Wear suitable respiratory protective device when decanting larger quantities without extractor facilities. Prevent formation of dust. Avoid inhalation of dust. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Any deposit of dust which cannot be avoided must be regularly removed. Use appropriate industrial vacuum cleaners or central vacuum systems for dust removal.
Information about protection against explosions and fires: Dust can combine with air to form an explosive mixture. Keep ignition sources away- Do not smoke. Protect against electrostatic charges.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Storage
Requirements to be met by storerooms and receptacles: Store at ambient temperatures and at dry conditions.
Information about storage in one common storage facility: Store away from oxidizing agents. Store away from foodstuffs. Store away from feed
Storage class: 11 Combustible solids.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure controls
Personal protective equipment:
General protective and hygienic measures: The usual precautionary measures should be adhered to when handling chemicals. Do not inhale dust /smoke/mist. Avoid contact with the eyes and skin. Be sure to clean skin thoroughly after work and before breaks. Vacuum clean contaminated clothing. Do not blow or brush off contamination. After skin contact cleanse skin thoroughly. After Contact with eyes rinse immediately
Breathing equipment: In case of unintentional release of substance, exceeding the occupational exposure limit value: In case of brief exposure or low pollution use a respiratory filter device. In case of intensive or longer exposure use a respiratory protective device that is independent of circulation air. Short term filter device: Filter P2. Breathing equipment is only to be used in order to handle the residual risk of short term jobs if all other risk minimizing measures have been carried out e.g. retention and/or local exhaust.
Protection of hands: Chemical resistant gloves. The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation. Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation Check the permeability before using the gloves again. Preventive skin protection by use of skin-protecting agents is recommended
Material of gloves: The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality and varies frommanufacturer to manufacturer. For undissolved solid substances following materials may be suitable: natural rubber (NR), butyl rubber (BR),
polychloroprene rubber (CR) and fluorocarbon rubber (FKM).
Penetration time of glove material: The exact penetration time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed.
Eye protection: At formation of dust or insufficient ventilation: Tightly sealed goggles.
Body protection: Dust-proof protective clothing. Protective shoes.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity
Chemical stability
Thermal decomposition/conditions to be avoided: no decomposition if used and stored according to specifications
Possibility of hazardous reactions known.
Incompatible materials: Oxidants, Acids
Hazardous decomposition products: In case of fire or at high temperatures the formation of following decomposition products is possible.
Barium compounds.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods
Recommendation: Disposal according to instruction of the local authorities
Uncleaned packaging:
Recommendation: Packaging that cannot be cleaned are to be disposed of in the same manner as the product. Disposal must be made according to official regulations.
