Additional information

Fish is the most sensitive species to dimethyl glutarate with an LC50 (96h) 30.9 ppm. Short-term effects of the substance towards daphnia and algae were found greater than 112 ppm and greater than 85 ppm respectively, based on read across to DBE (EC# 906-170-0).

Thus, dimethyl glutarate (DMG) is considered as harmful to the aquatic organisms. Based on read across to DBE, inhibition to activated sludge is not anticipated since the substance is readily biodegradable.
