Description of key information

The test item was investigated for its biodegradability in the 28 days Modified Zahn-Wellens test. The test article proved to be degradable by 23 % within 28 days. The standard, Aniline, was degraded within 14 days by 96 %.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

In one key study the test item was investigated for its biodegradability in the 28 days Modified Zahn-Wellens test. The test article proved to be degradable by 23 % within 28 days. The standard, Aniline, was degraded within 14 days by 96 %.

In a second test the test item was investigated for its inherently biodegradability in a 14 days test according to a static method HOECHST No. 4 from November 1973 and a modified OECD method from January 1974. Two tests were done with non-adapted inoculum with initial substance concentrations of 1850 mg/L and 585 mg/L, respectively. In these test elimination of 2 and 23 % DOC removal was found.

A third test was done with adapted sludge with an initial substance concentration of 585 mg/L. No elimination was found after 14 days.
