Description of key information

The test item Sodium dimethyl 5-sulphonatoisophthalate (SIM-Ester) is not readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

In an inherent biodegrability study (OECD 302B, GLP compliance) SIM-Ester was incubated with activated sludge for 28 day. The DOC (dissolved organic carbon) removal was mesured indicating a mean percentage biodegradation (based on DOC decrease) of 10% by the end of the test.

Furthermore, a study report (Report no. 21324) according to OECD 301C (Ready biodegradability:Modified MITI Test (I)),conducted under GLP, indicated that SIM-Ester was considered to be not ready biodegradable.
