Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Dissociation constant [Fatty alcohols C16 – C18 (even numbered), branched and linear]: 15.8 (QSAR)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

pKa at 20°C:
15.8

Additional information

A dissociation constant value of 15.8 was determined for each constituent of the substance using a validated QSAR estimation method. The result is considered reliable.

While the hydroxyl group is ionisable, aliphatic alcohols are extremely weak acids and only dissociate under strongly basic conditions. In the range of pH usually considered relevant to the human body and environment, i.e. pH 2-9, the individual constituents of isostearyl alcohol will be non-ionised.
