Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Bis(trimethoxysilylpropyl)amine (CAS 82985-35-1) hydrolyses rapidly (t1/2 = 6.9 h at neutral pH and room temperature) to bis(trihydroxysilylpropyl)amine and methanol. The hydrolysis is even faster at pH 4 and 9 with half-lives of 0.3 h and 0.1 h, respectively.

The substance is not considered readily biodegradable (48% within 28 d) as identified by a guideline study.

The silanol hydrolysis product is highly water soluble (1.0E+06 mg/L at 20-25°C), bears a low volatility (<1.0E-06 Pa at 25°C) and a low potential for adsorption given by the low log Kow value of -4. These physicochemical parameters indicate that the silanol hydrolysis product will mainly distribute in the water column.

The physicochemical parameters and environmental fate of the other hydrolysis product methanol are well known and described in the SIDS initial assessment report for SIAM 19: Methanol (OECD 2004).
