Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Diisobutyl Carbinol (DIBC) is not considered to be persisent, to bioaccumulate or have toxicity. DIBC is classified as readily biodegradable with high solubility, low vapor pressure, an estimated Log Kow of 3.08 and a low potential for bioaccumulation. The chemical safety assessment, according to Annex I, does not indicate a need to investigate any other effects since DIBC has no hazard classification based on available toxicity data.  The available evidence on degradation, bioaccumulation potential, and toxicity for Diisobutyl Carbinol (DIBC) indicates that the screening criteria for persistence (P) is not met, the definitive criteria for bioaccumulation potential (B) is not met, and screening criteria for toxicity (T) is not met as outlined in Annex XIII of the REACH legislation of December 2006. Based on the information described below for the relevant endpoints, the substance is not a PBT/vPvB.

In addition, the impurities consist of isomers of 2,6 -dimethylheptan-4 -one (CAS no. 108 -83 -8, diisobutyl ketone (DIBK)) which is not considered to be PBT/vPvB based on Annex XIII (TGD 2006) as it does not have PBT or PvBv properties.
