Based on the appearance of the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, 1,3-BDDMA is a slightly yellowish liquid with ester-like odour at 20°C and 1013 hPa.

 

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, the melting point of 1,3-BDDMA is -23°C at 1025 hPa (determined according to OECD guideline 102, adopted 27th July 1995, and EU Method A.1, December 1992; differential scanning calorimetry).

 

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, 1,3-BDDMA has no boiling point, but polymerises at ca. 211°C at 1025 hPa (measurement according to OECD guideline 103, adopted 27th July 1995, and EU Method A.2, December 1992; differential scanning calorimetry).

 

Based on data obtained the relative density of 1,3-BDDMA is 1.01 at 25°C (reliable handbook data).

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, a granulometry test does not need to be conducted as the substance is a liquid.   

 

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, the vapour pressure of 1,3-BDDMA is 0.001 hPa (0.1 Pa) at 20°C (determined according to OECD guideline 104, adopted 27 July 1995, and EU Method A.4, December 1992; dynamic method).

 

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, the n-Octanol / water partition coefficient (log Kow) of 1,3-BDDMA is 3.1 at ambient temperature (determined according to OECD guideline 117, adopted 13 April 2004, and EU Method A.8, 30 May 2008; HPLC method).

In a study conducted with the registered substance the n-Octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) of 1,3-BDDMA is reported to be 2.16 (HPLC method). However, other reference substances than recommended in the OECD guideline were used.

 

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, the water solubility of 1,3-BDDMA is 243 mg/L at 20°C (determined according to OECD guideline 105, adopted 27 July 1995; flask method).

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, surface tension testing does not need to be conducted. Based on structure, no surface activity is expected. The test substance is not used as detergent.

 

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, the flash point of 1,3-BDDMA is 153°C at 1013.25 hPa (determined according to EU method A.9, 27 June 1967, Pensky-Martens closed cup method).

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, the auto-ignition temperature of 1,3 -BDDMA is 290°C at 1021 hPa (determined according to EU method A.15, adopted 30 may 2008, and DIN 51794).

 

According to REACH Regulation (Annex XI, 1.), the study on flammability  does not need to be conducted if the available data are sufficient for assessment. For the substance tests on flash point and auto-ignition are available. Pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected based on a consideration of the structure of the substance.

 

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, explosive properties testing does not need to be conducted as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in the molecule.

 

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, oxidising properties testing does not need to be conducted on the basis of chemical structure.

 

In accordance with column 1 of REACH regulation annex IX, stability in organic solvents testing is not required as stability of the substance is not considered critical. The test substance has no particular reactivity towards typical solvents and is not used in solution.

 

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex IX, dissociation constant testing does not need to be conducted as there are no dissociable groups.

 

Based on data obtained with the closely related read-across substance 1,4-BDDMA, the kinematic viscosity of 1,3-BDDMA is 5.29 mm²/s at 20°C and 3.13 mm²/s at 40°C (determined according to OECD guideline 114, adopted 12 May 1981, and DIN51562; micro-Ubbelohde viscometer).
