The acute toxicity of the test substance towards the aquatic invertebrate Daphnia magna was investigated according to OECD Guideline 202 / EU Method C.2 (Muckle, 2013). Daphnia magna is a typical part of zoo-plancton and belongs to the family of crustacea. Five nominal concentrations were used as followed: 0 (control), 10, 22, 46, 100 and 220 mg/L. Twenty daphnids were exposed to the test substance for a duration of 48 h in a static test system. No immobilisation was recorded in the control vessel. Potassium dichromate was used as positive control, revealing an EC50(48h) of 1.5 mg/L (demanded range: 0.6 - 1.7 mg/L). Analytical verification was performed at the beginning and the end of the experiment using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Measured concentrations at the end were in a range between 107 % and 122 % of the nominal concentration and in a range of 104 - 123 % of the measured start concentration, respectively. Therefore, the determination of the results was based on the geometric means of the measured concentration. The geometric mean is calculated by multiplication of the n participating concentrations and taking the n-th root. The following results were reported: EC50(48h): 180 mg/L and a NOEC(48h) of 52 mg/L. All validity criteria were met with exception of a pH deviation, since the pH at the beginning in the higher concentrated treatments was untypically high. Thus might be caused by the test substance properties, however, according to the applied guidelines, no pH adjustment was performed. Toxic effects may be caused at least partly by a pH-shift in the test solutions at concentrations above 46 mg/L
