Description of key information

In accordance with REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.

The flammability of liquids is determined on basis of their flashpoint (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases upon contact with water and their pyrophoricity. The molecular structure of phenyl ethyl acetate does not contain groups that indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties and handling of the substance indicates that this is the case. Thus, this study is scientifically unjustified.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

A flash point of 101ºC was recorded for this substance. As 2-phenethyl acetate is a liquid with flash point higher than 60ºC, the test material is not classified as flammable according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC.
