Description of key information
The EC50 (based on growth rate) and EC50 (based on yield) were determined to >8.39 mg/L. The NOEC based on growth rate and yield was 8.39 mg/L.
The EC50 of >100 mg/L is the matching loading rate.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- EC50 for freshwater algae:
- 100 mg/L
- EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
- 100 mg/L
Additional information
The effects of Melam on the growth on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata during 72 hours of exposure were assessed. Nominal concentrations were set at 100, 56, 32, 18, and 10 mg/L. The concentrations of the test substance in the 32, 59, and 100 mg/L groups exceeded +/- 20 % of the nominal concentrations. The concentrations at the end of exposure were within +/- 20 % of the measured initial values. Therefore, all test results of these groups were determined through the measured values at initial exposure.
In the treatment groups at 10 and 18 mg/L nominal concentration, the actual test substance concentration was below the limit of detection and limit of quantitation respectively.
In conclusion, the EC50 (based on growth rate) and EC50 (based on yield) were determined to >8.39 mg/L. The NOEC based on growth rate and yield was 8.39 mg/L. The EC50 of >100 mg/L is the matching loading rate. The EC50 is greater than the figure forced in the field "Value used for CSA" and cannot be entered as a relative result (>100 mg/L).
