Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental data concerning the toxicity of sodium methylparaben (CAS No. 5026-62-10) to sediment organisms are available. According to the standard requirements set in Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annexes VII, VIII and IX information regarding the effects of the substance on sediment organisms does not need to be presented at this tonnage band (100-1000 t/y). In addition the test substance exhibits a low potential of adsorption (log Koc/log Kow < 3), it is not likely to pose a chronic risk to sediment organisms. The ECHA guidance document on "Endpoint specific guidance" Chapter 7b (May 2008, p. 122) states, that a log Kow or log Koc ≥ 3 can be applied as a trigger value for sediment effect assessment, hence since direct and indirect exposure of the sediment compartment is unlikely due to the physico-chemical properties and the readily biodegradability of the substance no further assessment of the sediment compartment is not required.
