Irritant / corrosive response data:
Instillation of 3-MPA into a rabbit's eyes resulted in severe pain, severe corneal injury and severe conjunctival inflammation.  These effects were noted immediately after instillation and persisted through 14 days of observation.  The response of the washed eye was the same as that in the eye which was not washed.  This indicates the damage to the cornea was permanent.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
Category 1 (irreversible effects on the eye) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
3-MPA is corrosive and causes serious eye damage.
