Description of key information

Several studies are available for skin irritation/corrosion and eye irritation. Most of them were only available as secondary literature - with the exception of the study by Thyssen, 1978.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (corrosive)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Additional information

In the studies for skin irritation/corrosion one of them characterised bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphate as not irritating while the others jugded the test substance as (highly) irritating or corrosive.

All studies for eye irritation found bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphate to be irritating or corrosive or not fully reversible..

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: corrosive

Effects on eye irritation: irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the results of the key study and by a weight of evidence consideration for skin irritation/corrosion a classification as C, R34 (causes burns) (GHS: Skin Corr. 1 C; H314) is justified. Due to the severe effects on the eye R41 (Risk of serious damage to eyes) (GHS: Eye Damage 1; H318) is adequate.
