Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Hydrolysis

The hydrolysis of SIKA Hardener MH in different media (ultra-pure water, aprotic and protic organic solvents like acetonitrile and methanol) and the stability of SIKA Hardener MH's degradation product (Aldehyde M) in water and aqueous buffer solutions (OECD and ISO medium) at room temperature were investigated using LC/MS and LC/MS/MS, respectively. Measurements revealed a very fast hydrolysis of SIKA Hardener MH in water and water-based media (t1/2 < 0.6 minutes in water). The degradation products of the hydrolysis of SIKA Hardener MH are 2,2-dimethyl-3-(morpholin-4-yl)propanal (Aldehyde M) and hexanediamine.

Biodegradation in water

The ready biodegradability of the test item was assessed over a 28 day period in a closed bottle test (EU method C 4-E). The test material attained up to 2.9 % biodegradation after 28 days whereas the reference substance (Sodium benzoate) was 60.5 % degraded 28 days. These results indicate that the test item cannot be classified readily biodegradable under conditions of the test.

Adsorption/desorption

In accordance with Annex VIII column 2 of the Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 REACH the test on adsorption / desorption does not need to be performed if the substance has a low octanol water partition coefficient. The partition coefficient of the test item was determined to be 1.106 (refer to IUCLID Section 4.7 'Partition coefficient'), therefore, no test was performed. The test item is considered to have low bioaccumulation potential.
