Titanium tetra(octanolate), branched and linear is hydrolytically unstable with half-life less than 10 minutes (Brekelmans M.J.C. 2013). The hydrolytic stability of was tested in buffered aqueous solutions at pH 4.0, 7.0, and 9.0 at 25°C for 40 minutes. The progress of the hydrolysis was followed by monitoring the main degradation product; octyl alcohol isomers (Exxal 8; alcohols C7-9-iso, C8-rich). Additionally, the formation of a white precipitation was observed during the hydrolysis study. This is most likely due to the formation of the insoluble titanium oxides. No other degradation products were identified. Based on the results this substance can be considered as rapidly degradable.

The main degradation product (Exxal 8; alcohols, C7-9-iso, C8–rich) has the potential to degrade in the atmosphere from hydroxyl radical attack and photodegradation can be a predominant daylight atmospheric degradation process for this substance. Based on the AOPWIN calculations, the photodegradation half-life of this substance as mediated by OH-attack is estimated as 0.85 days or 10.2 hours based on a 12-hour sunlight day. The half-life is calculated for a 12 -hr day because it normalizes degradation to standard day-light period during which hydroxyl radicals needed for degradation are generated.
