Description of key information

The lowest value of the auto-ignition temperature is 340°C. The auto-ignition temperature is the lowest value from three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5°C. 5 drops were put into the Erlenmeyer flask at each temperature. Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature is stated as 340°C.

Key study was performed according to the Regulation EC 440/2008 Method A.15. Auto-Ignition Temperature and the German Standard DIN 51794 (2003).

The test item CHIMEXANE NB has an auto-ignition temperature of 340 °C. The test determine the lowest temperature at which a liquid or gaseous product ignites in contact with a hot surface. For this purpose, the amount of the test item and the temperature of the hot surface are varied. In this way, the lowest temperature rounded down with an accuracy of 5 °C is determined at which the test item ignites.

For each test, 5 drops were put into the Erlenmeyer flask at each temperature.

It is noted here that according to ECHA guidance – Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment; chapter R.7A: Endpoint specific guidance, May 2008 – the auto-ignition temperature for liquids is not used directly for classification and labeling according to regulation (EC) 1272/2008. However, it can be used in the chemical safety assessment in considering risks associated with processing the substance. Nevertheless, according to DIN EN 13463-1 the test item has to be assigned to temperature class T2.

This study has been considered as reliable without restriction because the test was performed in compliance with edicted guidelines giving scientifically valid results.
