Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting point of MBB was 353.9 - 354.3 K (80.7 – 81.1°C), measured by capillary tube method.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
354.1 K

Additional information

The melting point of 2-Methoxymethyl-p-phenylenediamine (MBB) was determined following OECD guideline 102 (Melting Point / Melting Range).

Melting point of the test material was determined by Capillary Tube Method. The capillary tube containing test material was heated in a liquid bath (silicon oil) apparatus. Test material inserted in the capillary tube was heated to a temperature (below approx. melting point) in silicon oil bath apparatus. From then on, and throughout the actual melting, the temperature rise was a maximum of 1K/min. During the determination of the melting temperature, the temperature was recorded at the beginning and end of melting.

The melting point of 2-Methoxymethyl-p-phenylenediamine (MBB) was 353.9 to 354.3 K (80.7 – 81.1°C). During the melting process the test material melted to a colorless clear liquid. After solidifying a dark white to beige crystalline residue with partly brown discoloration remained.
