Description of key information

No carcinogenicity data are currently available for magnesium zirconium oxide. Nevertheless, from the data available on zirconium dioxide (which is present at >= 90% w/w in the crystal lattice of magnesium zirconium oxide), it can be concluded that testing is not required as zirconium dioxide is not mutagenic and no evidence of hyperplasia or pre-neoplastic lesions is observed from the repeated dose studies. Additionally, the presence of magnesium in the crystal lattice is not expected to alter the non-hazardous toxicological profile of zirconium dioxide as magnesium is omnipresent throughout the human body and is essential to living organisms.
