Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

BABS Na salt degraded only 6% within 30 days.  BABS NA salt is not readily biodegradable, but does undergo extensive primary biodegradation as evidenced by 97.8% biodegradation in 196 days. In the weight of evidence approach, the substance considered as inherently biodegradable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
inherently biodegradable

Additional information

The biodegradation of BABS Na salt was followed for 30 days by analyzing the O2 consumption. The test material degraded only 6% percent in 30 days, indicating the substance is not readily biodegradable. The recent biodegradation study from BABS read-across used as read-across was also determined the substance as not readily biodegradable. However, a second studywith BABS Nas howed that BABS Na salt degraded 97% in 196 days and therefore is capable of undergoing extensive primary biodegradation. In the weight of evidence approach, the substance considered as inherently biodegradable. No other biodegradation testing is required on BABS Na salt.
