The DSC was checked with an indium standard and gave a melting onset at 156.36°C with a normalised energy of -28.55 Jg-1. As this was within the specification of 156.3 to 156.9°C and -27.85 to -29.05 Jg-1, the instrument was considered to be fit for purpose.

An endotherm equating to a melting temperature and exotherm equating to decomposition were recorded for Acetylfuranoside. The melting endotherm was well defined so the onset and peak temperatures are appropriate. The decomposition was over a large temperature range so the left and right limits were recorded.

Sample 1:      Melting temperature, onset 65.89°C, peak temperature 68.20°C.
Boiling temperature, left and right limits, 201.74°C to 296.51°C

Sample 2:      Melting temperature, onset 66.00 °C, peak temperature 68.02 °C.
Boiling temperature, left and right limits, 195.19 °C to 301.63 °C

Mean melting temperature onset: 66°C.

Mean boiling temperature range: 198 to 299°C.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The melting point of Acetylfuranoside was assessed as being 66°C.
Executive summary:

The melting point of Acetylfuranoside was assessed in accordance with EC Directive 92/69/EEC Method A1 and OECD Guideline 102. The results of the test showed that the mean melting point was 66°C.
