Additional information

The test substance had no toxic effects on green algae, daphnia and zebrafish in long-term studies performed, when tested at its maximum solubility in test media. Also, no effects on microorganisms were seen in the toxicity control of a biodegradability study. Hence, the substance is not considered toxic in the aquatic environment.

Exposure to sediment and soil is very unlikely and not assumed, as the substance is manufactured, formulated and used as an intermediate in industry only, without exposure to sediment or soil.

Hazards to air were also not identified, considering a vapour pressure: < 0.00045 Pa at 25 °C and taking into account that exposure through dust is very limited in industrial processes.

Accumulation through the food-chain is also considered unlikely, in lack of significant exposure and considering a low potential for bioaccumulation. Furthermore, no toxic effects were seen in toxicity studies, namely in a reproductive toxicity study and a subchronic oral toxicity study.

Conclusion on classification

Considering the lack of toxic effects in algae, daphnia reproduction toxicity and fish early life-stage studies as well as BCF values below 500, the substance does not fulfil any of the criteria for environmental hazards and thus is not subject to classification for such endpoints according to CLP (Regulation EC No. 1272/2008).
