Description of key information
The adsorption desorption test was technically not possible to fulfil. Hence, individual log Koc for respectively neutral and ionic amine constituent was derived using KOCWIN. At pH 7, the proportion of ionic to neutral amine is considered to be 0.99975 to 0.00025. A weight average of log Koc was calculated to 4.61 based on the proportion of the individual constituents and the fraction of ionic and neutral amine. This value corresponds well to the previoulsy performed OECD 106 test on 1 -Octadecylamine that showed an Log Koc of 4.4.

Preliminary test of the adsorption behaviour of the C16 -22 alkylamine in two different soils together with optimization of required analytical method were started in May 2013. These investigations indicated that a definitive study following OECD 106 (2000) and Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, C.18 (2001) is not feasible because no accurate adsorption coefficients KD as well as corresponding organic carbon normalised adsorption coefficients KOC could be derived due to concurrent adsorption processes on test vessel surfaces. Furthermore the required analytical sensitivity could not be obtained with sufficient accuracy providing recoveries between 90 and 110%.
Summarized the preliminary test showed that the remaining aqueous concentration after equilibrium was lower than the LOQ (LOD) including using an improved procedure to concentrate the substance. If testing at concentration ≤ ½ of water solubility suggested in the OECD 106 guideline (i.e. lower than the concentration preliminary tested), it would be even more difficult to detect the substance in the aqueous phase. Hence, it was not considered technically feasible to fulfil the OECD 106 adsorption desorption test, and Log Koc was instead estimated with QSAR.
