First-aid measures

General advice : Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. First aider needs to protect himself. Place affected clothing in a sealed bag for subsequent decontamination.

Inhalation : Move to fresh air. Keep at rest. Consult a physician if necessary.

Skin contact : Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off with soap and plenty of water. Wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15minutes). Consult a physician.

Eye contact : Rinse with running water whilst keeping the eyes wide open (at least 15minutes). Get immediate medical advice/ attention.

Ingestion : Do NOT induce vomiting. Do not give anything to drink. Obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media : All extinguishing agents can be used.

Unsuitable extinguishing media : None known. Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during fire fighting : on heating. Corrosive or suffocating vapours are released. In the presence of water, forms corrosive solutions.

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters : Full protective suit. Self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 133)

Specific fire fighting methods : Do not inhale fumes. Cool containers / tanks with water spray. Recover the water used for extinguishing and neutralize with sodium hydroxide until the pH is between 5.5 and 8.5. Evacuate personnel to safe areas.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:  Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Do not breathe fumes. Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment. Personal protective equipment. Eye/face protection, Safety glasses, Face-shield, Wear suitable protective clothing.Wear suitable gloves. For further information refer to section 8 "Exposure controls/personal protection". Measures for separation from incompatible substances and mixtures

Environmental precautions : Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Contain the spilled material by bunding. Prevent product from entering drains. Treat recovered material as described in the section "Disposal considerations".

Methods for Cleaning or Taking Up :

Recovery : Clean-up methods - small spillage. Absorb spillage with: sand. Sweep up and shovel into suitable containers for disposal. Clean-up methods - large spillage. Pump up the product into a spare container :- suitably labelled. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

Decontamination/cleaning : Wash the non-recoverable remainder with sodium carbonate solution (5 % Na2 CO3).

Disposal : Dispose of contents/ container to an approved waste disposal plant.

Handling and storage

Handling

Technical measures : acid resisting floor. Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation.

Advice on safe handling and usage : Keep away from metals. Avoid the formation or spread of mists in the atmosphere. Use only in well-ventilated areas. Do NOT handle without gloves.Reduce the duration of exposure to the minimum required. Keep away from heat and flame. Avoid exceeding of the given occupational exposure limits (see section 8).

Storage

Technical Measures for storage : The floor of the depot should be impermeable and designed to form a watertight basin.

Storage conditions

Recommended : Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed.

Incompatible products : Alkalis and caustic products. Oxidizing materials.

Packaging Measures

Packaging conditions : Keep only in the original container.

Packaging materials - Recommended : Acid resistant materials.

Packaging materials - To be avoided : Aluminium and its alloys.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control measures

Engineering measures : Avoid splashes. Effective exhaust ventilation system

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection : In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 133)

Hand protection : Wear suitable gloves. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it. Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time. Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough.

Eye protection : Safety goggles. Face-shield

Skin and body protection : Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work place. Remove and wash contaminated clothing. Impervious clothing. Boots

Hygiene measures : Emergency equipment immediately accessible, with instructions for use. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing. Use clean, well-maintained personal protection equipment. Store personal protection equipment in a clean location away from the work area. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace. Before reuse, thoroughly clean personal protection equipment. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.

Shower or bathe at the end of working. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Protective measures : The protective equipment must be selected in accordance with current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of the protective equipment. Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment should be based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the potential hazards and/or risks that may occur during use. Always have on hand a first-aid kit, together with proper instructions.

General advice : Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Contain the spilled material by bunding. Prevent product from entering drains.Treat recovered material as described in the section "Disposal considerations".

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity : Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Chemical stability : Stable under normal conditions.

Hazardous reactions :

Conditions to avoid : May decompose: on heating

Materials to avoid : Reacts with: Bases, with the release of heat.

Reacts with: Oxidizing materials.

Decomposition products : On thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) releases: harmful and corrosive vapours. (Carbon oxides (CO + CO2)). Oxides of phosphorus

Other information : Attacks many metals releasing highly flammable gas (hydrogen) which generates fire or explosion hazards.

Disposal considerations

Product Disposal

Prohibition : Do not dispose of with domestic refuse. Should not be released into the environment.

Advice on Disposal : Refer to manufacturer/supplier for information on recovery/recycling. Dispose of as hazardous waste in compliance with local and national regulations. Do NOT put down the drain. Must undergo physico-chemical treatment prior to disposal.

Advice on cleaning and disposal of packaging

Measures for waste avoidance. : Do not dispose of together with household waste.

Advice : Wash off with plenty of water. Allow it to drain thoroughly. Decant and separate out the organic phase and treat using the above method for waste product. Solutions with low pH-value must be neutralized before discharge.

Reason for waste disposal : Reuse or recycle following decontamination.

Other data : Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
