Description of key information

A well documented guideline study with dipropylene glycol methyl ether indicates a low toxicity to the freshwater bacterium Pseudomonas putida. Sodium methanolate was of moderate to low toxicity to a mixed aerobic microoganism culture.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
96.9 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
38 mg/L

Additional information

Dipropylene glycol methyl ether, a component of the glycol ethers heavies, was of low toxicity to pure cultures of Pseudomonas putida, with a reported EC10 value of 4168 mg/L (nominal). Sodium methanolate was of moderate to low toxicity to a mixed aerobic culture of microorganisms with reported EC50 of 96.9 mg/L and EC10 of 38 mg/L.
