In accordance with chapter R.7.1.10 of REACH guidance 3.2 R7a the flammability of a liquid is described by flash point and boiling point: non flammable

Additional information

In accordance with chapter R.7.1.10 of REACH Guidance IR & CSA, ch.R.7a, the flammability of a liquid is described by flash point and boiling point. Based on a flash point of 191°C and a boiling point of 334.5°C, the liquid is non flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The liquid test item is non flammable based on flash point and boiling point.

Ignition on contact with air:

The test item is according to the Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria (1) known from practical handling to be not pyrophoric. It is produced, handled and stored under normal conditions in air without any observation in respect to pyrophoric properties. Therefore, there is no likelihood that the test item possesses pyrophoric properties. According to these facts further testing in respect to these properties is not required.

Release of flammable gases in contact with water:

The test item does according to the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria (2) show one or more of the following properties:

1. The chemical structure of the substance does not contain metals or metalloids;

2. Experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured in water or washed with water;

3. The substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture.

Therefore it is considered as not forming flammable gases in contact with water.

According to this fact further testing in respect to these properties is not required.

Finally, the test item does not contain any of the following chemical groups according to the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria (2) indicating self-reactive properties in organic materials:

Therefore, the test item does not possess self-reactive properties.
