Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
toxicity to soil microorganisms
Type of information:
migrated information: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Available ecotoxicity data on (hydrogen) fluoride up to 1998 was reviewed and summarised by the European Chemicals Bureau (ECB). Although detail on design and methodology is very limited in this report, endpoints and conclusions are considered suitably reliable for environmental risk assessment as the substance was assessed as part of the EU-RAR and in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) 793/93 on the evaluation and control of risks of existing substances.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
not specified
Conclusions:
The NOEC values for soil microbial processes range from 106-300 mg/kg. Nitrification was found to be the most sensitive endpoint. The NOEC of 106 mg/kg was used in the EU-RAR for determination of the PNECsoil.
Executive summary:

The EU RAR reviews and summarises the available data on the toxicity of sodium and potassium fluoride to terrestrial microorganisms. The NOEC values (expressed in terms of fluoride ion, F-) are reported to range from 106 to 3000 mg/L.
