Description of key information

The octanol/water partition coefficient value of 3.2 at 19.8°C was obtained for epyrron. Guideline study (OECD 107) and in compliance with GLP.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
3.2
at the temperature of:
19.8 °C

Additional information

Preliminary test

In the HPLC chromatogram a very broad peak was observed for the test substance. Therefore, it was concluded that the HPLC is not appropriate for the determination of the partition coefficient of epyrron.

The solubility of the test substance in n-octanol at ambient temperature was determined to be 232 g/l. A water solubility range from 25 to 100 mg/l at 19.8°C was determined for epyrron in NOTOX project 216945. Therefore the partition coefficient was estimated to be Pow2320 and 9280 (log Powbetween 3.4 and 4.0).

Main study

The individual measurements of concentrations of epyrron based on major component were determined in the n-octanol and water phase were determined by gas chromatography in equilibrium and then used for calculation of the partition coefficients.

The partition coefficient was calculated as the mean value of all six Powvalues. The temperature was 19.8 +/- 0.8°C during the performance of the test.
