The surface tension of a saturated aqueous solution of substance "reaction mass of calcium hydrogen phosphonate and dialuminium tricalcium hexaoxide" was determined to be 73.9 mN/m (mean of 4 measurements). The temperature of measurements was 20.0+0.5 °C.

As according to the criteria described in the Test Method Regulation (EU 440/2008, method A.5), a substance is surface active if its surface tension is < 60 mN/m, it was concluded that substance "reaction mass of calcium hydrogen phosphonate and dialuminium tricalcium hexaoxide" is not a surface active material.

Executive summary:

The surface tension of substance "reaction mass of calcium hydrogen phosphonate and dialuminium tricalcium hexaoxide" (a.i. 90 %) was measured in a study according to EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension), 1984/1989 and OECD Guideline 115 (Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions), 1981.

A saturated solution was prepared by stirring 210.1 mg test substance with 100 mL double-distilled water for approximately 17.5 hours. Thereafter a sample was taken and centrifuged for 5 minutes at 1500 g and 20 °C. A solid test substance pellet was observed. The clear supernatant was centrifuged again under identical conditions. The resulting clear supernatant was used as the test solution.

The determination of the surface tension was accomplished by means of a tensiometer, based on the ring method of Lecomte du Noüy.

 

The surface tension was determined to be 73.9 mN/m (mean of 4 measurements). Based on the criteria as laid down in the updated, subsequent versions of the EEC guideline (1989, 2008), it was concluded that substance "reaction mass of calcium hydrogen phosphonate and dialuminium tricalcium hexaoxide" should not be regarded as a surface active material.
