Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2008-06-10 to 2008-12-02
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA), Den Haag, The Netherlands
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Remarks:
The flame of a gas burner could ignite the test substance pile. The test substance melted, burned with a blue flame and turned into a brown residue. Additionally, white smoke was observed while in contact with the flame of the gas burner. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished immediately and no propagation of combustion was observed.
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Because no burning with flame or smouldering over 200 mm within 4 minutes was observed, the test item is considered as not highly flammable.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
other:
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA), Den Haag, The Netherlands
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA), Den Haag, The Netherlands
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

non flammable

not pyrophoric

no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Not flammable in the preliminary burning rate test (EU Method A.10).

Based on structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

The substance has a melting range of 89-92 °C; self-heating behaviour is not relevant for substances that are completely molten at 160 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

Not flammable in the preliminary burning rate test (EU Method A.10).

Based on structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

The substance has a melting range of 89-92 °C; self-heating behaviour is not relevant for substances that are completely molten at 160 °C.
