Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

On the basis of the obtained results, the percentage inhibition of the rate of oxygen consumption by the test material was calculated and the EC50 value (the concentration that causes 50% of an effect on test organism within a given exposure period when compared with a control) was determined.
Antimicrobial activity of xanthates is evident from the median inhibitory limit on ammonia oxidation in Nitrosomonas of 12 ppm. Potassium ethyl xanthate is a nitrification inhibitor that has also been observed to inhibit soil denitrification at concentrations around 50 ppm, but only in soils previously amended with mannitol to stimulate denitrifying activity.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
220.4 mg/L
