Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The major part of the test item was lower than 4 mm (89.4% was retained by the 1-mm sieve).
Executive summary:

Introduction

The test item was tesed in accordance to the OECD Guideline 110 (Particle Size Distribution / Fibre Length and Diameter Distributions)

Method

Test sieving can be carried out by hand or with the aid of test sieving machines. If test sieving machines are used, the method shall always include the band sieving. The procedure consists in gently placing the material to be sieved on the test sieve with a specified nominal aperture size and separating the material by shaking, tapping or washing. In sieving successively with test sieves of different aperture sizes, the test sample is separated into size fractions designated by the aperture sizes of the test sieves used.

Procedure

Preliminary test: the test sample is sieved. If no significant amount of particles is obtained under 100 μm, the test is completed. If a significant amount of particles is obtained under 100 μm, a full test is performed.

Full test: the test sample particle size distribution is determined under 100 μm. - Above 100 μm the remaining amount of test item (or a coarse particle size distribution) is given. - Under 20 μm, the particle size distribution is performed by an appropriate method when the amount is significant (i.e. superior to 5% of the total test sample).

Conclusion

The major part of the test item was lower than 4 mm (89.4% was retained by the 1-mm sieve).
