Toxicity to terrestrial plants

Description of key information

No data are available to evaluate the toxicity of Isotan to terrestrial plants. Annex IX states that in the absence of toxicity data for soil organisms, the equilibrium partitioning method may be applied to assess the hazard to soil organisms. Accordingly, using the equilibrium partitioning method (TGD on risk assessment, Part II, Chapter 3, Section 3.6.2.1, p 117) gives a PNECsoil of 3.28 µg/kg (dw ). Annex IX indicates that the choice of appropriate tests depends on the outcome of the chemical safety assessment. In the case of Isotan, exposure to the terrestrial compartment will only result from indirect pathways via emissions to air or wastewater. The results of the chemical safety assessment indicates that exposure via these pathways would not be expected to result in an unacceptable level of risk for the terrestrial compartment. Further Isotan is readily biodegradable and has a very low Koc (<-3.6) which indicates that this substance has low potential to adsorb to soil and will be degraded rapidly. Therefore, no specific testing is required for the toxicity of Isotan to terrestrial plants.
