Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

Ethylbutylamine is corrosive to the skin, and therefore skin sensitisation testing is not allowed according to REACH, Annexes VII and VIII, section 8.1, column 2. Skin protection is required to protect against skin corrosion and irritation, and this will also protect against sensitisation in the unlikely case that the substance should possess a weak sensitising potential.

Skin necrosis and irritation but no sensitisation (0%) was seen in a Magnusen Kligman study with Guinea pigs. Due to methodological deficiencies (insufficient number of test and control animals; skin corrosion; no positive control substance included) the study is considered to be invalid (Safepharm, 1980).

Migrated from Short description of key information:
The substance is not sensitising. Skin necrosis and irritation but no sensitisation (0%) was seen in a Magnusen Kligman study with Guinea pigs.
