Justification:

8.1.1 Persistence Assessment

For inorganic metal salts including reaction mass of aluminium hydroxide and aluminium nitrate and aluminium sulphate the concept of biodegradation is not applicable in general (OECD, 2001). Removal of aluminum from solution via precipitation and abiotic processes is dominant. Aluminum is abundant in the environment from natural mineral sources.

8.1.2 Bioaccumulation assessment

 

Bioaccumulation and secondary poisoning are not considered significant. The reaction mass of aluminium nitrate and aluminium sulphate is not expected to bioaccumulate in organisms and food chains.

 

8.1.3 Toxicity assessment

Aluminum compounds are non-hazardous (not classified for the environment). Aluminum (Al) is the most commonly occurring metallic element, comprising eight percent of the earth's crust and is therefore found in great abundance in both the terrestrial and sediment environments. Concentrations of 3-8% (30,000-80,000 ppm) are not uncommon. The relative contributions of anthropogenic aluminum to the existing natural pools of aluminum in soils and sediments is very small, and therefore, not relevant either in terms of added amounts or in terms of toxicity.

The reaction mass of aluminium hydroxide and aluminium nitrate and aluminium sulphate is not classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction nor is there any evidence of chronic toxicity according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Therefore, the reaction mass of aluminium hydrocide and aluminium nitrate and aluminium sulphate does not meet the T criterion.

8.2. Emission Characterisation

 

Not relevant, since the substancedoes not fulfil the PBT / vPvB criteria.
