Conclusions:
The melting point of -24 °C determined by differential scanning calorimetry is nevertheless the melting point of water influenced by the solvated inorganic salts due to freezing point depression.

Additional information

The melting point of the substance was determined by differential scanning calorimetry in a test similar to OECD 102 to be -24 °C. The end of the endothermic peak of melting was found at ca. -10 °C in the DSC graph. This is supported by a melting point value of -12 °C to -10 °C in the safety data sheet.

The determined melting points are nevertheless the melting point of water influenced by the solvated inorganic salts due to freezing point depression and therefore may vary if the concentration of the inorganic salts varies. Supporting melting points from literature are 73 °C for aluminium nitrate nonahydrate and 86 °C (decomposition) for aluminium sulfate octadecahydrate.
