Appearance/physical state/colour
The test item is a faint yellowish liquid at 20 °C and 101.3 kPa with amine-like odour.
Melting point/freezing point
A melting point study was carried out according to EU guideline A.1 and OECD 102. The test item has a melting range of 1.3 - 1.95 °C at 1013 hPa.
Boiling point
A boiling point study was carried out according to EU guideline A.2 and OECD 103. The test item decomposed at 280.5 °C and 1013 hPa.
Density
Relative density was measured according to EU guideline A.3 and OECD 109. The relative density of the test item was determined to be 0.9057 at 20 ± 0.5 °C.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry)
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the test on particle size distribution (required in section 7.14) was waived, as the substance is marketed or used in non-solid or non-granular form only. The test item is a liquid at room temperature (20 °C).
Vapour pressure
Available experimental methods do not allow vapour pressure determination below 1.00E-5 Pa, thus, for the test item experimental vapour pressure determination was technically not feasible. Vapour pressure of the test item was estimated using the modified Grain method resulting in 3.48E-11 mm Hg corresponding to 4.64E-09 Pa at 25 °C (EPI Suite, 2014).
Partition coefficient
Due to rapid hydrolysis of the test item upon contact with water, experimental partition coefficient determination was technically not feasible. The partition coefficient of the test item was calculated resulting in a Log Kow of 14.22 (Epi Win 2000).
Water solubility
Due to rapid hydrolysis of the test item upon contact with water, experimental water solubility determination was technically not feasible. The water solubility of the test item was calculated to be 5.50E-011 mg/L (5.50E-08 µg/L) at 25 deg C (Epi Win, 2008). Thus, the test item is considered insoluble.
Surface tension
In accordance with column 2 Annex VII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), information requirements section 7.6, the study does not need to be conducted because based on structure; surface activity is not expected or cannot be predicted.
Flash point
A flash point study was carried out with the test item according to EU method A.9. The flash point was determined to be 209 ± 3.0 °C.
Auto flammability
The auto ignition temperature study was carried out according to EU-Method A.15. An auto ignition temperature of 430 ± 5.0 °C was determined, this value being the mean of three independent determinations.
Flammability
Based on flash point determination according to EU Method A.9 and experience in handling and use, the test item was considered not flammable as such or in contact with water and not to exhibit pyrophoric properties. The chemical structure of the test item contains no groups associated with flammability properties (as such or in contact with water) and/or pyrophoric properties. Studies according to EU Method A.12 and EU Method A.13 were waived and a theory based evaluation provided.
Explosiveness
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the test on explosiveness (section 7.11) was waived as the chemical structure of the test item does not contain chemical groups or structural components part of the molecule indicating explosive properties. EU Method A.14 was replaced by a theoretical based evaluation. The test item was considered not explosive. No experimental determination was carried out.
Oxidising properties
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII section 7.13, the test on oxidising properties was waived as the chemical structure of the test item does not contain chemical groups, indicating oxidising properties. In general, oxidising properties are not expected for an organic molecule that does not contain oxygen, chlorine or fluorine or if the molecule does contain oxygen, chlorine or fluorine, but these elements are only chemically bonded to carbon or hydrogen. As can be seen from the chemical structure, this is the case for the test item. The substance does not contain chlorine or fluorine and all the oxygen atoms are bound to carbon atoms only and thus, do not impose any oxidising properties. EU Method A.17 was replaced by a theory based evaluation. The test item was considered not oxidising. No experimental determination was carried out.
