Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

self-heating cat. 2 according to UN test N.4

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance is a solid with a melting point < 160 °C, therefore the self-ignition temperature was not need to be determined.

The self-heating behaviour was determined, and the study was documented in the endpoint 4.23 this section.

The test was conducted accorging to a modified UN test N.4 (UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria/ST/SG/AG. 10/11/Rev.3, 1999/ Section 33.3).

The maximum temperature in doubly performed tests exceeded once the 200 °C limit. The result of this modified test formally fulfils the criterion of classfication in cat. 2. However, in an additional test under nitrogen atmosphere nearly the same behavior was observed (the maximum temperature was nearly exactly 200 °C). This shows evidently that the reaciton of FAS at elevated temperature is an exothermic decomposition and not a self-heating process with oxygen. Nevertheless the current regulations require the classification due to the formal result of test N.4. And also the substance is on the UN Dangerous Goods List Division 4.2.

Therefore, the products should be classified into self-heating Cat.2.
