Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: In case of release of prepration, boron trifluoride vapour

will be evolved, which in turn may degrade to form fluorine

gas.  If exposed to vapours, remove person to area of fresh

air.  Seek medical advice if signs of discomfort.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15

minutes.  Seek medical advice immediately.  Show copy of

safety sheet to medical staff.

Treat as for boron trifluoride or fluorine gas.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water.  Remove contaminated clothing and

wash before re-use.  Seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water and drink small quantity of water

(500 ml).  Do not induce vomitting.

If signs of discomfort or if large quantity ingested, seek

medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: No special precautions for the substance.  Treat as for

solvents.  (Water spray, carbon dioxide or chemical foam)

Product arising from burning: Complete combustion will lead to carbon dioxide, boron

salts, fluorine, nitrogen oxides and water.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: No special precautions, although face protection with

breathing apparatus, coveralls and chemical resistant gloves

are recommended.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: If there is release of the substance from the containers,

absorb onto sand, paper or other suitable absorbent material

and dispose of as hazardous waste.

Boron trifluoride may be released and consider evacuation of

staff from area affected by spill. The area of spill may be

washed with large quantities of detergent and water.

Ensure good ventilation.  Wear protective clothing including

breathing aparatus; treat as for fluorine gas.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance is not handled, but when preparing the

containers to release boron trifluoride, protective

equipment will include suitable gloves, goggles and

protective outer clothing.

The substance is classified as hazardous and special

precautions will be communicated on the SDS.  Direct contact

is avoided.

The preparation with boron trifluoride is more hazardous

than the substance alone and precautions suitable for

handling the boron trifluoride need to be taken.

Storage: No special precautions other than conditions suitable for

pressurised containers.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Expected to be imported in steel containers containing a

maximum of 2.2 litres of the substance.

Containers will be returned to the supplier for re-filling

with boron trifluoride.
