First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: The substance is not volatile, but if exposed to vapours,

remove person to area of fresh air.  Seek medical advice

immediately.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15

minutes.  Seek medical advice immediately.  Show copy of

safety sheet to medical staff.

Treat as for alkanes.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water.  Remove contaminated clothing and

wash before re-use.  Seek medical advice immediately.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water and drink small quantity of water

(500 ml).  Do not induce vomitting. Seek medical advice

immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: No special precautions for the substance.  Treat as for

solvents.  (Water spray, carbon dioxide or chemical foam)

Product arising from burning: Complete combustion will lead to carbon dioxide, silicon

oxide and water.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: No special precautions, although face protection with

breathing apparatus, coveralls and chemical resistant gloves

are recommended.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Absorb onto sand, paper or other suitable absorbent material

and dispose of as hazardous waste.  The area of spill may

be washed with large quantities of detergent and water.

Handling and storage

Handling: Protective equipment when handling the substance should

include suitable gloves resistant to silanes and alkanes,

goggles and protective outer clothing.

The substance is not considered to be hazardous and no

special precautions are required, although it is recommended

that direct contact is avoided.

Storage: No special precautions, although preparation should be

stored in sealed containers.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Expected to be imported in steel containers containing a

maximum of 19 litres of the substance.  Smaller containers

of 1.2 and 4 litres are also intended to be used.

Containers will be returned to the supplier for re-cycling.
