First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from exposure. If breathing ceases, give artificial

respiration. Get medical attention immediately.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse opened eye for 15 minutes under running water or with

normal saline solution. Get medical attention immediately.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed area with soap

and water. Get medical attention immediately.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: In case of accidental swallowing, give large amounts of

water. Get medical attention immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, dry chemical or CO2.

Product arising from burning: Under normal conditions of use, this material does not

present a significant fire or explosion hazard, however the

substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a

fire, evolving noxious fumes (eg carbon and nitrogen

oxides). However, there is no experimental evidence to

support the anticipated combustion products.

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing

apparatus must be worn.

Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from immediate vicinity.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment conforming to

the relevant national or international standards, as

mentioned in section 2.3.10.

Avoid dust formation by damping down with water. Absorb

spillages of solutions with a suitable inert material (eg.

sand or soil). Carefully transfer the spillage to waste

containers, or use a sealed industrial vacuum machine

(HEPA). Containers filled with waste material must be

labelled in the same way as the original substance


Clean the spillage area by dissolving in solvent if

regulations and/or according to Schering Plough Good

Environmental Practice (GEP). Incineration is the preferred

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used under

conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with

any local regulations in order to avoid exposure.

Such protective equipment should conform to the appropriate

international or national standards as follows;

used, it must be capable of adequately controlling exposure,

be suitable for the purpose, and conform to the appropriate

international or national standards, such as a dust mask

conforming to EN149 FFP1.

These measures should be regarded as a minimum.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.

Keep containers tightly closed when not in use.

1.3% moisture with average particle size distribution of

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: There will be no discharge to the environment. Recovery from

minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically

or technically feasible, and such waste material will be

disposed of by incineration. In principle, it may be

possible to recover larger spillages of uncontaminated

material for subsequent use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The notification tests have shown that the substance is

acutely harmful if swallowed.

No chemical treatment is practicable to neutralise the

hazardous health properties.

The dust hazard will be minimised by appropriate handling

and storage.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers or spillages of solutions mixed with

inert material (eg. sand or soil) should not normally  be

disposed of by landfill.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning

under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment

processor in accordance with local regulations.
