Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
October 2005
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study conducted in compliance with agreed protocols, with no or minor deviation from standard test guidelines and/or minor methodological deficiencies, which do not affect the quality of relevant results.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 128 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Not self-ignitable below melting temperature 128°C.

Relevant temperatures are summarised in Table 1.

No significant endothermic or exothermic effect was recorded for the test substance sample between 20°C and the melting temperature of the test substance. (128°C - see melting point).

After the experiment, the test substance sample had changed into a charred residue and was collected in a container placed below the cube. There was no test substance left in the cube itself. From this it was concluded that most of the test substance sample had been molten during the experiment. The change of colour and consistency is an indication for decomposition or reaction.

Above the melting temperature (i.e. 128°C), the recorded sample temperature is at appoximately the temperature of the oven since there is probably no test substance left in the cube.

Conclusions:
EA-3098 is not self-ignitable between 20°C and the melting temperature (128°C) according to the criteria as described in the method A.16 of EEC-Directive 92/69/EEC
Executive summary:

The determination of the relative self-ignition temperature of the test substance was performed in accordance with EEC Directive 92/69/EEC, A.16 "Relative self-ignition temperature for solids" (1992).

Approximately 8 cm3 test substance was heated in an oven. The temperature of the oven and the test substance were recorded every five minutes while the temperature of the oven was increased from 20°C to 400°C at a rate of 0.5°C/minute. No self-ignition of the test substance was observed between 20°C and the melting temperature of the test substance i.e. 128°C.

In conclusion, EA-3098 is not self-ignitable between 20°C and the melting temperature (128°C) according to the criteria as described in the guideline.
