According to the guidelines a toxicity study on birds is not necessary if CS2 is not bio accumulating (BCF fish < 100); the maximum bioconcentration factor (BCF) was found to be 60. In addition CS2 has a high metabolic rate in mammals, therefore no bioaccumulation in mammals is foreseen. Finally CS2 does not have an affinity for fat tissue (its log Kow value is 2.7 which is smaller than the cut off value of 3, mentioned in the guidelines). In In conclusion, a toxicity study with birds is scientifically injustified.
