Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
Lauroyl chloride
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
Lauroyl chloride
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Due to the rapid hydrolysis of lauroyl chloride, the environmental assessment is mainly based on its hydrolysis product lauric acid (CAS 143-7-7) and its sodium salt (sodium laurate, CAS 629-25-4). Lauric acid is not P/vP since it is readily biodegradable based on a weight of evidence approach. The hydrolysis product is also not B/vB based on an experimentally derived BCF of 252 L/kg (read-across approach to sodium laurate). Lauric acid is not T since, the lowest available chronic value is > 0.01 mg/L (algae: 72 -h ErC10 = 1.1 mg/L; read-across approach to sodium laurate) and the substance has no toxicological relevant labelling.
