Endpoint summary
Administrative data
Description of key information
Studies are available to evaluation the irritant potential of 1,5,9 -cyclododecatrien, and showed that the test item is slightly irritating for skin but not irritating for eyes.
No data is available on the potential irritation of the test item on respiratory tract.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Skin irritation / corrosion
Endpoint conclusion

Additional information
Skin irritation
To test the acute skin irritant effect the test item 1,5,9 -cyclododecatrien was applied to the shaven dorsal skin of 3 male and 3 female rabbits (OECD 404 guideline study). The product was administered undiluted and the time of exposure in the patch test was 4 hours. Observations were made at various unspecified time points. Test item produced minimal erythema in all rabbits and minial edema of the abraded skin in two rabbits. Subsequent observations revealed a gradual return to normal (complete after one week).
According to the study, the test item 1,5,9 -cyclododecatrien showed a slightly irritant effect on the skin of male and female rabbits.
Eye irritation
To test the acute irritant effect on eyes and mucosa the test item 1,5,9 -cyclododecatriene was administered undiluted into eyes or eyelid sacs of 3 male and 3 female rabbits (OECD 405 guideline study). According to the study, the test item 1,5,9 -cyclododecatriene showed no irritant effect on the eyes and mucisa of male and female rabbits.
In another reliable study, undiluted test item (0.1 mL) was instilled into the conjunctival sac of the right eye of each rabbit. Observations of the rabbits occurred at 1, 24, 48 and 72 hours, and one week following treatment. The test item produced erythema of the palpebral conjunctiva, obvious swelling of the lids and nictitating membrane, and lacrimation within 1 hour.
Subsequent observations revealed improvement within 24 hours and a return to normal after one week. Average numerical evaluation at the end of 1, 24, 48, 72 hours and 1 week were 6.6, 2.3, 1.0, 1.0 and 0, reaspectively with 110.0 the maximum score attainable. Therefore the test item 1,5,9 -cyclododecatriene showed only very mild reversible irritant effects on the eyes and mucosa of rabbits.
According to the study, the test item showed a slightly irritant effect on the eyes of rabbits.
Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: slightly irritating
