Only one reliable terrestrial data was available on plant. From the data, a 5d-LOEC (the lowest concentration tested that showed a significant effect) has been calculated by the submitter as 0,2 µmol/g ww soil (= 27,6 mg/kg ww soil). It was not possible to calculate any accurate EC50 from this test, since only 70% of effect was determined at the highest tested dose, that is 2 µmol/g ww soil.

However, salicylic acid is not supposed to be directly applied to soil and an indirect exposure to soil via sewage sludge transfer is unlikely since the it is readily biodegradable. For such a substance, it can be assumed that it will be biodegraded within the STP process and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected. Furthermore, since salicylic acid is neither adsorptive (log Koc = 1,54) nor bioaccumulative (log Kow = 2), a significant distribution into the soil compartment and a significant exposure of terrestrial organisms is not expected. Hence, information about effects on terrestrial organisms is not required and the equilibrium partitioning method is used for assessing the hazard to terrestrial organisms.
