Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Polyneuropathy was observed in 12 out of 23 subjects exposed to phthalates—bilateral painful decreased sensitivity of skin or senses of the hands and feet were observed in seven of these 23 subjects (three showed reduced sensitivity to vibration). In the alcohol-exposed group, two out of nine showed sensory neuropathy, and one out of six showed hyporeflexia in the anhydride exposed group.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- Polyneuropathy was observed in 12 out of 23 subjects exposed to phthalates—bilateral painful decreased sensitivity of skin or senses of the hands and feet were observed in seven of these 23 subjects (three showed reduced sensitivity to vibration).
- Executive summary:
The study (Gilioli, Bulgherain Terrana et al. 1978) showed adverse effects on approximately half of the exposed workers.
